Blogs vs Wikis
There are many similarities between blogs and wikis. According to CIO, blogs can be described as a website where users can post journal like entries usually in the form of online diaries, personal chronicles, travel adventures, etc. They are usually public pages that include pictures, videos, and other links as well. Blogs are usually run by a single person and that person can post whatever they'd like and usually only they can edit it. Blogs are based on opinion and personal experience while wikis include the knowledge of a group of people. A wiki is a website made up of text that can be modified and edited by anyone with access. That being said, both are newer platforms of media for people to collaborate.
Blogs can be used for collaboration in the way we're using it for class. We all have our own distinct blogs but we are able to comment and make suggestions on others blogs. We can all see each others blogs and although we can't modify someone else's blogs, we can post comments giving our opinions on what's being said and have a back and forth conversation with someone. The importance of convergence in today's networked world is the ability and ease of open discussion and collaboration. According to Data Center Knowledge, network convergence is "the ease of video, telephone and and all other data communication services within a single network".
