Social Networking Sites
The social networking sites I chose were Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook. I chose these 4 because I use them the most, with the exception of Facebook.
I would say I use Twitter the most. On twitter, the interactions are more based on text. You can also share videos, pictures and get news updates. Twitter only allows 240 character tweets so you have to keep your thoughts concise. I think it's a good thing because I really don't want to see whole essays on twitter. Twitter also allows you to get news updates about politics, pop culture, sports, etc. It's a great platform to share quick news, thoughts, photos. Twitter is a very versatile platform because you can use it to look at funny posts, talk politics, interact with companies for help, share updates, and read the President's constant rants about "fake news". Twitter for the most part is very public and although you can set your account to private, very few people do.
Another one of the platforms I use the most is Instagram. Instagram is a lot different than Twitter. Instead of mostly text based posts, we see mostly photos and videos. There is very little to read other than captions. The performance metric is basically likes and followers. The best part about instagram is that you can curate your feed however you'd like and follow people based on your interests. The explore page is also specialized based on content you like which is another cool feature. You don't really get outside news or content unless you follow those pages.
Snapchat is a little more personal in my opinion. Other users can't go to your page and view your profile. You have to personally add people by name and then you're allowed to view their stories. Snapchat invented the concept of content disappearing quickly and individual stories that disappear in 24 hours which is a great idea in my opinion. The performance metric for snapchat would probably be views on your story. The amount of friends you have doesn't necessarily matter. Snapchat lets you share various parts of your day with your close friends by allowing you to send individual snaps or post it on your story for anyone to see.
Facebook is an extremely popular social media site. Although it's so popular, it's the social media website I use the least. Facebook allows you to share pictures, videos, text with anyone your friends with or anyone, based on your privacy preferences. Facebook also has a market place where you can really sell and buy anything. Facebook is heavily used by an older crowd and not millennials. People can comment and like your posts which is the main form of interaction on the site. Facebook also has a Messenger which is an easy way to communicate with others. Facebook is mostly used to keep in touch with family and friends and is usually more personal. Random people don't typically get the chance to interact with you unless you allow it.

I picked the same 4 social media networks! However, the one I use the most is Facebook, but I have slowly shifted over to Instagram recently. I don't use Twitter very much.
