P2P File Sharing
File sharing is the distribution of digital media through the internet. Digital media can include computer data, documents, pictures, audio, ebooks, etc. All of these can be shared from one computer to another using file sharing. P2P file sharing stands for peer to peer file sharing which allows you to search and find media files that is on another computer. It uses a software to help you find files then you can also share files as well. You can request a file and the software will search for where you can access said file. In Digital Pirates Winning Battle with Studios, they tell the story about how Warner Bros. tried to start a campaign so that there would be no illegal copies on The Dark Knight. The movie was downloaded over 7 million times. This is an example of how relevant p2p sharing is. The article also mentions how widespread the sharing of music, tv shows, movies and much more is shared online. There are huge databases online with thousands and thousands of movies, shows ready to be shared, streamed and downloaded at the click of a button. Another example of p2p file sharing would be the many online ebook and textbook databases. I know many people, myself included, have found their textbooks online for free through different databases. As a student, those type of websites are extremely helpful because textbooks can be so expensive.
I love the visual! It was a good touch. I like how you were able to connect P2P file sharing back with college because honestly at first I missed it! But you are absolutely right. The online textbooks and ebooks are considered file sharing, which benefits college students like us. It helps us save money and not break our bank. That was a good point!
